Shared E-bike, E-scooter lithium ion batteries can make powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

Uber ebikes lined up in Rome

E-bikes in a row have become a familiar sight in many cities in Australia and around the world. The bikes are usually powered by a lithium ion battery and these have been known to explode (see video below).

Explosions are caused when a thermal runaway operating on the battery  is triggered. Anyone interested in turning an e-bike into a stationary or moving improvised explosive device has only to construct an appropriate triggering mechanism.

E-bikes are often arranged in arrays such as that above, somewhat like a  shopfront, and that proximity could possibly be utilised to multiply the impact of an explosion, by using a single or multiple triggering devices.

The threat to the public at large  from e-bikes and bike sharing schemes in general has been ignored if not derided .

Malaysia's The Star reveals details of Foreign Minister Penny Wong's Malaysian siblings not made known to Australians - Revelation further complicates relations between Wong & the Australian Secret Intelligence Service, of which she is now minister in charge

by Ganesh Sahathevan

The Star of Malaysia has published a story about Australia's new Foreign Minister Penny Wong that challenges the Wong narrative of growing up with just one other sibling in Australia, cared for by their Australian mother.

The Star has reported:

Penny, 53, is the eldest in the family of seven siblings from ...  father Datuk Francis Wong’s two marriages.

James said Penny, though much older than him, was very much part of the Wong family who spent a lot of time together, be it in Sabah or Australia.

“We all grew up together as one family; she made many trips to KK (Kota Kinabalu).

James’ other siblings have left Sabah to live in Australia and similarly, his father and mother are there too with all their grandchildren.

“I am the only one left here. I love Sabah,” said James, who heads the Sabah branch of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce-Young Entrepreneurs Committee aimed at helping young entrepreneurs.

That James is active in the  Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce is not surprising for the Communist  Party Of China is particularly active in Sabah and Sarawak., with business and other ties to the local Chinese population in those two states.

It is to be expected that members of the Wong family, including father Francis, would have business and/or other  dealings with Communist Party China linked entities active in Sabah.  Again, contrary to the narrative the Hakka clan which the Wongs belong to are not wandering Jews who are not welcome anywhere but rather a powerful clan who have significant control over the state and its economy.

That Penny Wong's brother is active in a China sponsored entity is a link between the Wongs and the Communist Party Of China and its entities which  further complicates the relationship between the Australian Secret Intelligence Service and Penny Wong, who is now the Minister in charge of ASIS.
Penny's Malaysia Chinese heritage and Sabah Hakka antecedents by themselves ought to have been a security red flag, with regards the threat from China.

Penny has her family at heart

KOTA KINABALU: For many around the world, Kota Kinabalu-born Penny Wong, Australia’s newly minted foreign minister following last weekend’s national election, is a tough-talking, hardball politician. But to her family in Sabah, Penny remains a kind, loving and protective woman – a far cry from her public persona.

For her younger brother James, Penny is no tough cookie but one who speaks up for the voiceless and defenceless.

“It is in her nature to defend the weaker people. She does not do it aggressively but will stand up for them on principles.

“Penny is loving and genuine ... real genuine and has a very soft side.

“Even when we siblings were having minor fights among ourselves, she would defend the weaker among us. She was never authoritarian,” said the 35-year-old architect here.

Giving a further glimpse into Penny’s private self, James – the only sibling from the Wong clan still in Sabah – said his sister was down-to-earth, had no airs and would not insist on protocol.

Penny, 53, is the eldest in the family of seven siblings from their father Datuk Francis Wong’s two marriages.

She is one of two children from the first marriage between Francis and his Australian wife while James is from Francis’ second marriage.

She studied at the University of Adelaide and later represented unions and workers as an industrial court lawyer in the South Australian capital.

Under the Labor Party, she had served twice as a federal minister, for climate change and finance.

James said Penny, though much older than him, was very much part of the Wong family who spent a lot of time together, be it in Sabah or Australia.

“We all grew up together as one family; she made many trips to KK (Kota Kinabalu).

“She loves to keep her visits to KK low-key and walks about like a normal tourist,” said James.

He remembered when Penny came for a holiday in Kuala Lumpur during her stint as Australian finance minister (under Julia Gillard’s premiership).

“We were quietly hanging out in KL. When our Malaysian government became aware of her presence, almost immediately there was security put around the hotel. We just had a good laugh when it happened,” James added.

Needless to say, he and the rest of the family are truly proud of Penny as she continues to progress in Australian politics through the Labor Party that won the recent election with its leader Anthony Albanese sworn in as prime minister.

James said Penny’s big win under the Labor Party showed the amount of support for her.

“That was very surprising to me. It (her win) is testament to her capability.

“It was good to hear reports that she had been considered for the deputy prime minister’s post. It shows she has done well and we are proud of her,” he said, referring to the immediate post-election political chatter.

“Penny’s story should be an inspiration to our young Sabahans. Looking at the rise of a simple Sabahan girl in Australian politics, it means that Sabahans have the potential to succeed and should not underestimate themselves,” he added.

Francis was a respected Sabah architect who, among others, was involved in contributing technical advice to the Kota Kinabalu town and city development over the years, prior to his retirement.

For James and the rest of the family, no matter where Penny’s political fortunes take her, she is one great and loving sister who will always be there for them

Singapore's Najib Razak dilemma - Malaysia's Court Of Appeal found that Najib is a national embarrassment, and Singapore is proud that it upholds the rule of law, but its Foreign Minister is happy to meet and be photographed with Najib in his official capacity

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

Najib Razak

Makan malam tadi bersama Menteri Luar Singapura, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan dan Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Singapura ke Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon.

Banyak yang dibincangkan dan dikongsi bersama.

Semoga hubungan kedua-dua negara kita kekal erat dan kukuh.

May be an image of 2 people, indoor and text that says "移 得 差 中 有 天 地 非"
May be an image of 3 people, people sitting, people standing, indoor and text that says "有 天"
May be an image of 5 people, people standing, suit and indoor
May be an image of 4 people, people standing and indoor

These  images and Facebook post  from Najib Razak  were published in Singapore's Strait Times . In a recent decision of Malaysia's Court Of Appeal the Court , in rejecting Najib's appeal against a corruption conviction, held that Najib was a "national embarrassment."

Najib has been convicted for offences in relation to Malaysia's 1MDB theft, which caused the  Monetary Authority Singapore  to impose penalties including fines and closure against a number of Singapore banks for their part in that theft. The transactions included laundering 1MDB funds that have been traced to Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

Singapore's position on the rule of law is clear. In 2014 its representative told a UN conference on the   rule of  law:

The rule of law has been and will continue to be a cornerstone of Singapore’s stability. At the international level, Singapore is of the firm belief that the rule of law is a critical basis for international relations among states, and between states and other international legal entities. At the national level, the rule of law is the bedrock on which the nation of Singapore was founded and continues to provide the framework for its proper functioning.

Malaysian born Labor MP Sam Lim remained a Malaysian citizen for over 13 years after becoming an Australian citizen, in defiance of Malaysia's laws.

by Ganesh Sahathevan

Newly elected Malaysian born Labor MP Sam Lim's Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) candidate declaration. includes his Australian citizenship certificate, which is dated 13 December 2008. He states in his declaration that he ceased being a Malaysian citizen on 10 September 2021. Malaysia does not permit dual citizenship, and he was therefore in breach of Malaysia's laws for over 13 years.

The proof of renunciation he provides is a letter  from Malaysia's National Registry Department, addressed not to him but to a consular officer at the Malaysian consulate in Perth,  which states that Lim's declaration of renunciation has been "registered" on 10 September 2021, and that he was no longer a Malaysian citizen as of that date.

There are two issues that arise from that letter.First, it is addressed to a consular officer, and not Lim. Why it has been provided Lim is unclear. Second, while it states that Lim's brith certificate is to be returned to him, it does not say if it now bears the appropriate stamp to signify that he is no longer a Malaysian citizen.

As stated before, Lim has provided proof that he has applied to renounce his Malaysian citizenship. Better evidence is required that he has in fact ceased to be a Malaysian citizen, That evidence should  include an explanation as to why Lim has not provided the AEC  any correspondence from the  relevant Malaysian authority addressed to him. The same issue has been raised by this writer with regards documents produced by Senator Penny Wong.

Meanwhile, it should be of concern to Australians that a sitting MP was in breach of a foreign country's laws, in this case for over 13 years.

Malaysian born Labor MP Sam Lim has applied to renounce Malaysian citizenship, no evidence provided that the application has been accepted, and that Lim is no longer a Malaysian citizen

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

Newly elected Malaysian born Labor MP Sam Lim's Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) candidate declaration states, as proof that he is no longer a Malaysian citizen:

The process of renouncing Malaysian citizenship involves making an application to renounce citizenship, which the Malaysian Government may or may not accept. Acceptance of the application is notified by letter, and a stamp on the Malaysian Government issued birth certificate which declares that the person is no longer a Malaysian citizen. Lim has not provided any of that.

The registration that he refers to in his AEC declaration is the registration of the application to renounce citizenship, nothing more.

Top Group law school still not accepting new students despite reaccreditation in 2019 , but no guidance for existing law students and graduates from the NSW LPAB

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

The law school operated by  Top Group, trading as IMC, is still not accepting new students:

The Law school is currently not accepting any new enrolments for its Bachelor of Laws course. This Information will be updated if new enrolments open.

The Law degree at IMC's School of Law is fully accredited and thus offers an alternative to study in a public university. Our accreditation includes approval from the Commonwealth Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and the NSW Legal Practice Admissions Board.

Both  regulators, and in particular the NSW Legal Practice Admissions Board which granted Top Group the first and only license issued a private company to award law degrees, has yet to provide students and graduates any guidance.

The NSW LPAB has also remained silent about any likely leaks from its officers about the reaccreditation of the law school in 2019, and what appears to be a case of trading on price sensitive information.

NSW LPAB personnel should have been the only persons with knowledge of that price sensitive information; with regards the results of the review, and the date of notification.

Zhu Minshen announces that NSW LPAB review "went smoothly": AG NSW Mark Speakman and officers unconcerned by Clive Hamilton's disclosures of threats, intimidation and defiance of AFP directives ,share price collapse

by Ganesh Sahathevan

The LPAB''s tick of approval does not seem to have reversed the downward trend in share price.Indeed it does look as if the LPAB has ignored all together the fact that Top's market capitalisation has collapsed since listing. Note that Top's shareprice has fallen 14.29% over the past month, compared to 1.13% for the overall market as measured by the Hang Seng Index

In the words of Zhu Minshen, chairman and CEO of his Top Education Group Ltd:

Bachelor of Law Re-accreditation

The scheduled re-accreditation process of our Bachelor of Laws (‘‘LLB’’) went smoothly. On 27 June 2019, TOP received formal notification from the Legal Profession Admission Board of New South Wales (‘‘LPAB’’) to accredit TOP’s LLB for a further five-year period commencing from the notification date.
(TOP EDUCATION GROUP LTD
ANNOUNCEMENT OF ANNUAL RESULTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2019)

All this despite the revelations of open defiance of an AFP directive, threats and intimidation disclosed in Clive Hamilton's "Silent Invasion",which have been previously reported on this blog:

In his 2018 book "Silent Invasion" Professor Clive Hamilton reports that Top Education Group's Zhu Minshen organised  students , including students from his Top Education Institute to protest  against Tibetans at the  2008 rally , which counted towards the Top students’ assessment.  Zhu’s Top Institution is “perhaps the only accredited degree program in Australia that counts agitating for a foreign power towards its qualifications.”

Hamilton provides details of Zhu's Communist Party China antecedents and his organisation of the 30,000 strong demonstration by Chinese students at the Canberra torch relay, many of them brandishing Chinese flags.

This was clearly an open challenge to the authority , and in public defiance  of, the AFP's directive to Chinese government security that they were not to be involved in the torch relay. As Hamilton puts is "ASIO shat themselves".

Despite this open defiance of the law that they are meant to defend and uphold the Attorney General NSW Mark Speakman and the other senior judicial officers at the LPAB determined that an exception should  be made to allow Zhu to operate the "first and only" law school in Australia that is not part of a university.
