Anwar Ibrahim 's immunity will mean a license to lie to the Agong - Lessons from R v Boris Johnson

PM Anwar Extends Highest Congratulations To New King, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim

The Prime Minister Of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim is asking the Federal Court , Malaysia's highest court to determine if he is immune from civil action. In his words:

“It (application) concerns the integrity of our constitutional system and the need to ensure that high public office is protected from litigation that may be strategically timed, politically motivated, or institutionally disruptive.

If Anwar's application is granted the type of proceedings brought against Boris  Johnson for lying to  Elizabeth II  when he sought Her Majesty's consent to  prorogue Parliament in 2019  would be  denied Malaysians. In short, Anwar Ibrahim will  be granted a license to lie to the Agong,

The case against Johnson is formally known as R (on the application of Miller) (Appellant) v The Prime Minister (Respondent) . Mrs Gina Miller launched proceedings in the High Court in England and Wales, seeking a declaration that the Prime Minister’s advice to her Majesty was unlawful. The High Court dismissed her claim and hence the appeal to the Supreme Court which she won.

That having been said, it is a fact that Anwar's application  is an attempt to frustrate civil proceedings brought against by one Yusof Rawther. Anwar's initial application to the High Court has been dismissed  in no uncertain terms with costs.
