The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)
is an expert on everything , including the Malaysian and Singaporean
economies. Learn from this episode of its Stuff The British Stole how Malaysia and Singapore, both former British colonies gained nothing from Sir Henry Wickham bringing to Malaysia and Singapore rubber seeds from Brazil.
Unfortunately for the ABC, the Rubber Trade Association Singapore has on its website a more definitive view of how Singapore and Malaysia grew out of Sir Henry Wickham's adventures.
In fact, a bit of research (online, out of ABC offices in Sydney) of the Singapore National Library's archive of Singapore newspapers going back to the mid 1800s would have revealed that Sir Henry Wickham was quite candid about his Brazilian rubber seed adventure.There was no need for an expensive ABC investigation that took its team to the Amazon jungles of Brazil Kew Gardens in the UK, and Singapore.
