Anwar Ibrahim's 7 October not condoned but understandable comment will understandably rattle Malaysia's neighbours who have large Muslim populations that feel at least somewhat oppressed

Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has told Germany's DW that HAMAS's 7 October massacre is understandable, even if not condoned given the Israel-Palestine history.
He draws comparisons between the ANC and HAMAS, who he says also carried out acts of terrorism. Oppression, he says justifies the terrorism.

Anwar's comments are likely to rattle Malaysia's neighbours. Thailand and the Philippines who have large Muslim populations living at or near their borders with Malaysia, with whom they have had troubles.
Singapore has a large Muslim population who are constantly reminded by their Malay Muslim brethren in Malaysia that they are being oppressed by Singapore's majority Chinese population. Some in Singapore may agre with them.
