As reported in the SMH 18 October 2020:
Disgraced former Liberal MP Daryl Maguire told a close friend that then-Premier Barry O'Farrell was "quite happy" for him to be involved with private Chinese business deals and did not mind if he got a commission out of it.
In a previously secret interview with the corruption watchdog, Mr Maguire's associate Robert Tuck said he once asked the former MP why he was involved with major ventures such as a proposed $400 million trade centre in Wagga Wagga and an aviation school.
"[Mr Maguire] said, 'Barry's quite happy for me to do it ... it's something good for NSW and Australia and he doesn't mind if I get a commission or get a payment out of it'," Mr Tuck said.
The parts in bold suggest that the then leader of the NSW Liberals Barry O'Farrell was more than aware of Maguire's deals, and as the photo above suggests, happy to lend his name and the weight of his office to those deals. Readers should note from the photo above that the then premier saw it fit to devote his precious time to an event officiated by an MP and a Communist Party China provincial secretary.
