Does China's Malaysian man in Solomon Island still owe the ATO over AUD 60 Million - An avenue for disruption ,but is Australia taking advantage of that leverage

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

The Courier Mail reported in 2017:

THE Australian Taxation Office has so far been thwarted in its bid to claw back a tax debt owed by former high flying Brisbane businessman Sir Yii Ann Hii.

In the past year, the amount owed by Sir Yii has ballooned from $64 million to $69 million, with interest currently accruing at $13,157 a day.

Fiona Biltris, who works for the ATO’s debt section, has told the Supreme Court that even though the ATO was granted extraordinary powers to “seize and sell” Sir Hii’s palatial Brisbane home, the bill still stands at $69 million — which includes $5 million in interest.

Hii Yii Ging is Consul for Malaysia in Solomon Islands, and appears to have strong China ties. It is unclear if his debt to the ATO has been settled, and whether the Australian Government has used that debt as an avenue to disrupt China's network in Solomon Islands.

Malaysian timber tycoons working with China in Solomon Islands betrayed by their Sibu,Sarawak Communist Party China antecedents

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

The Google translated  story below from Sina.com tells of Hii Yii Ging, Consul of Malaysia in Solomon Islands leading a delegation to China in 2018.The delegation included Lawrence Wong, Chairman of Solomon Timber Union.

ABC 4 Corners has provided details of how Malaysian and Chinese timber companies have taken control of Solomon Islands. It is not unlikely that the  Malaysian timber companies are acting as Chinese Trojan Horses.

To understand why one has only to look at the Sibu, Sarawak, antecedents of the Malaysian timber men active in Solomons.

Sibu was the epicentre of Communist Party China sponsored acts of terrorism in the 1960s and 1970s, and the CPC had the support of a number of well known, wealthy local Chinese timber tycoons. In the early 70s the Malaysian Government executed Operation Judas, in which many of the Sibu tycoons were arrested. They were released from detention only after they agreed to renounce their CPC leanings.

That they did so at that point was not surprising. They faced the loss of their wealth and were made to clean toilets with toothbrushes presumably as a foretaste of what a life in poverty could mean.

50 years later Solomon Islands may well provide an avenue to further the CPC cause, denied them in Malaysia.

Is it a pleasure to have friends from afar? ——Lezai Wood welcomes Solomon VIP guests

This is a king's feast exclusively for Solomon's large-leaf rosewood. Rare and rare materials that have stirred the world and oriental aesthetics collide here. The world's rare wood resources and industry giants share a win-win situation in the factory. On October 30, Huzhou Lezai Wood Industry Co., Ltd. welcomed a group of international VIPs, which were full of friends and people.

This group of special guests came from the beautiful Solomon Islands, the pearl of the distant South Pacific. They were led by Hii Yii Ging, Consul of Malaysia in Solomon, Lawrence Wong, Chairman of Solomon Timber Union, and Mr. Cheng Xiaorong, founder and chairman of Lezai Wood. Friendly and cordial talks.

The Salomon Timber Union is a very influential trade union in Salomon. Since its establishment, it has been committed to exporting Salomon large-leaf rosewood to the world. It is worth mentioning that they are highly optimistic about China's huge market and choose Huzhou Lezai Wood as the only strategic partner in China. One of the few companies. At present, the annual timber import volume of Lezai Wood Industry is about 1 million m^3, accounting for 70% of the export volume of Solomon Islands. Currently, it holds about 50,000 tons of Solomon large-leaf rosewood in China, accounting for 95% of the total domestic Solomon big-leaf rosewood. %above.

Chairman Cheng explained to the delegation in detail the manufacturing and drying technology, process characteristics, product quality and other related issues of Solomon Daye red sandalwood, and patiently and comprehensively answered a series of questions raised by the delegation. Hii Yii Ging, the Malaysian consul in Solomon, delivered a speech. He expressed his confidence in the prospects of Solomon's big-leaf rosewood in the Chinese furniture market through field inspections on Lezai wood factory, products and craftsmanship. Lawrence Wong, chairman of the Salomon Timber Union, also inquired in detail about the specific requirements of the Chinese market for timber and suggestions for improvement. Both parties agreed that as China increases its cooperation with non-traditional wood industry partner countries, precious hardwoods from exotic regions are more cost-effective.

Other members of the delegation also spoke highly of Lezai Wood's series products, from the interpretation of the new Chinese style to the ingenuity of Solomon's big-leaf red sandalwood, and they were full of confidence in the future development of Lezai Wood , and hope to have a long-term in-depth cooperation with Lezai Wood.

WA Synergy Battery will store fossil fuel generated energy that can power 160,000 homes for two hours

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

WA's Synergy Battery website states:

...the Big Battery will be capable of powering 160,000 homes for two hours.

The growing volume of energy produced by rooftop solar systems means there is increased electricity flowing into the network from residential homes. The extra energy is, in turn, reducing demand for electricity produced by power stations and is presenting challenges to system stability.

The Big Battery will improve system stability and help with the transition to increased renewables by charging and discharging rapidly, and smoothing the supply volatility caused by solar generation. It will also help by soaking up excess energy when demand is low during the day, storing it, and then discharging it into the system when demand picks up again in the afternoon and evening.

Meanwhile Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water shows that WA is still powered by fossil fuels.

The Synergy battery, which will be built at a cost of AUD 155 Million is funded by both the WA  and Commonwealth governments. The WA Government owns Synergy who also say

The battery will be able to store excess rooftop solar energy during the day, when demand is low, and discharge electricity rapidly during the afternoon and evening peak.

The battery is unlikely to be specifically tasked with gathering excess solar. It is to be connected to the Western Power network. It will store energy from all sources, and in the case of WA, that is more likely than not to be power generated from fossil fuels.

Note also that Synergy says  the battery " will also help by soaking up excess energy when demand is low during the day, storing it, and then discharging it into the system when demand picks up again in the afternoon and evening." This of course assumes constant sunlight at the optimal level, which will then vary from household to household depending on the quality and state of repair of the solar cells installed on top of homes and other buildings.

The real purpose of the battery seems to be this which Synergy admits:smoothing the supply volatility caused by solar generation.

of national security. In doing so he seems to have neglected his actual duties.

Siew Ting Tan McKeogh, the NSW LPAB Executive Officer who oversaw  the review  of Zhu Minshen and  Top Group's license to grant LB degrees,  has been replaced after just eight or so months on the job.

She was replaced soon after the  review was successfully completed, and signed off on 29 June 2019, just one day before the end of  the financial year. That fortuitous timing allowed Zhu to report in his year end financial reports that his review "went smoothly" .

The timing also saved the  NSW LPAB from having to report any delay , exception or qualification to that review. The NSW LPAB were able to do so despite the adverse media reports against Zhu and Top Group.

Zhu Minshen announces that NSW LPAB review "went smoothly": AG NSW Mark Speakman and officers unconcerned by Clive Hamilton's disclosures of threats, intimidation and defiance of AFP directives ,share price collapse

by Ganesh Sahathevan

The LPAB''s tick of approval does not seem to have reversed the downward trend in share price.Indeed it does look as if the LPAB has ignored all together the fact that Top's market capitalisation has collapsed since listing. Note that Top's shareprice has fallen 14.29% over the past month, compared to 1.13% for the overall market as measured by the Hang Seng Index

In the words of Zhu Minshen, chairman and CEO of his Top Education Group Ltd:

Bachelor of Law Re-accreditation

The scheduled re-accreditation process of our Bachelor of Laws (‘‘LLB’’) went smoothly. On 27 June 2019, TOP received formal notification from the Legal Profession Admission Board of New South Wales (‘‘LPAB’’) to accredit TOP’s LLB for a further five-year period commencing from the notification date.
(TOP EDUCATION GROUP LTD
ANNOUNCEMENT OF ANNUAL RESULTSFOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2019)

All this despite the revelations of open defiance of an AFP directive, threats and intimidation disclosed in Clive Hamilton's "Silent Invasion",which have been previously reported on this blog:

In his 2018 book "Silent Invasion" Professor Clive Hamilton reports that Top Education Group's Zhu Minshen organised  students , including students from his Top Education Institute to protest  against Tibetans at the  2008 rally , which counted towards the Top students’ assessment.  Zhu’s Top Institution is “perhaps the only accredited degree program in Australia that counts agitating for a foreign power towards its qualifications.”

Hamilton provides details of Zhu's Communist Party China antecedents and his organisation of the 30,000 strong demonstration by Chinese students at the Canberra torch relay, many of them brandishing Chinese flags.

This was clearly an open challenge to the authority , and in public defiance  of, the AFP's directive to Chinese government security that they were not to be involved in the torch relay. As Hamilton puts is "ASIO shat themselves".

Despite this open defiance of the law that they are meant to defend and uphold the Attorney General NSW Mark Speakman and the other senior judicial officers at the LPAB determined that an exception should  be made to allow Zhu to operate the "first and only" law school in Australia that is not part of a university.
