PM Anwar Ibrahim's discussions with Thailand should include recovery of 1MDB assets held in Thailand, or by Thai entities - Anwar should have raised the matter of Phengphian Laogumnerd and DWP APSU during recent discussions with Thai DPM Gen Prawit Wongsuwan

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

Anwar has sworn to fight corruption

FMT reported last week:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today received a visit from Thai Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan at his official residence Seri Perdana here.

Prawit was accompanied by Thai Deputy Defence Minister Gen Chaichan Changmongko during the courtesy call.

Prawit and his delegation were received by Anwar, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail when they arrived at Seri Perdana at about noon.

Their discussions involved security issues, particularly in Southern Thailand, and clearly, given the portfolios represented, security was probably the main item on the agenda.

It has not been reported, and it does not appear, that there was any discussion about the recovery of 1MDB assets that are likely to have been hidden in Thailand, or held by Thai entities.

Sarawak Report raised the matter of Thain national

Phengphian Laogumnerd, more than five years ago, and then there is the matter of DWP APSU that appears to be funded by Khadem AlQubaisy.

1MDB : Investigation of DWP-Hakkasan-Khadem AlQubaisy connection may lead to web of others, including Thai-Singapore beauty products venture DWP APSU

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

Further to the earlier investigation with regards money misappropriated from 1MDB and  the  Design Worldwide Partnership -Hakkasan-Khadem AlQubaisy links, it can now be revealed that Design World Partnership, an architectural firm, provided funds that were invested in  a Thai-Singapore beauty products venture DWP APSU

The extract above from the Trade Marks Registry, Intellectual Property Department of The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region  shows how DWP APSU Ltd of Hong Kong serves as the address for service of APSU Ancient Rituals Pte Ltd of Singapore, with regards the latter's trade mark registered in Hong Kong.

Information has been provided this writer that DWP provided funds to DWP APSU so that it may exploit commercially the APSU product range. This information raises the possibility that 1MDB funds were not only invested in large ventures like the Hakkasan nightclubs in the United States, but also smaller ventures in South East Asia, and perhaps, other parts of the world.

Why have 1MDB investigators ignored the Design Worldwide Partnership -Hakkasan-Khadem AlQubaisy connection?

by Ganesh Sahathevan

                           Khadem Al Qubaisy

In September 2021 industry publication Commercial Interior Design reported, under the headline Hakkasan Dubai reopens for 2021 with interiors refreshed by dwp:

After temporarily closing its doors, the award-winning Cantonese restaurant Hakkasan Dubai has reopened with a refreshed interior by Design Worldwide Partnership (dwp).

Global hospitality company Tao Group Hospitality took over the Hakkasan brand in April 2021 and appointed dwp to spearhead a summer-long enhancement programme at the popular’s restaurant’s new home.

Thanks to work done by the investigative news site Sarawak Report the connection between the 1MDB theft and Hakkasan are well known, and have been in the public domain for more than SIX years.

Sarawak Report has also provided evidence of Khadem AlQubaisy's control and ownership of Hakkasan. That ought to have prompted investigators to search worldwide for companies linked to AlQubaisy. Had they done so they would have discovered Al-Qubaisy's link to DWP. It should not take an expert in international tax to see why that would be relevant, especially in light of the Commercial Interior Design report above.

The Google news search of Sarawakreport and Hakkasan is provided below for the benefit of 1MDB investigators who seem to have missed the connections

In August 2021 Moderna founder Noubar Afeyan told David Rubenstien that his Modena COVID vaccine was 93% effective in preventing infection - Moderna's vaccine has failed to prevent infection, but in 2022 the Australian, Victorian Govts and Monash committed taxpayer money to working with Moderna to build a manufacturing facility in Victoria

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

Moderna, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRNA), a biotechnology company pioneering messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics and vaccines, today announced an agreement in principle with the Australian Government to build a state-of-the-art messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine manufacturing facility in Victoria, Australia including access to Moderna’s mRNA development engine. The contemplated framework would build the foundation to support Australia with direct access to rapid pandemic response capabilities and to provide access to Moderna’s vaccines in development for respiratory viruses. Moderna and the Australian government are committed to finalize the agreement.

In August 2021 Moderna  founder Noubar Afeyan told David Rubenstien that his Modena COVID  vaccine was 93% effective in  preventing infection. The relevant part of the interview above, Afeyan in response to to a question from Rubenstein says:

Despite the product's failure the  Australian Government and the Victorian Government decided, in January 2022, to commit funding for Moderna to build a manufacturing facility in Victoria.  The facility is expected to start operating in 2024.

While the Morrison Government initiated the project, the Albanese Government has been happy to take credit. In the words of the Albanese Government:

We announced the partnership to build the facility on 15 August 2022

The cost to the taxpayer has not been revealed.

mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility commences construction in Melbourne

Australia’s first large-scale mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility is now under construction at Monash University in Melbourne.

The facility is being established under a 10-year partnership between the Australian Government, global pharmaceutical company Moderna and the Victorian Government.

It is Moderna’s first mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility to be built outside of North America.

A ground breaking ceremony was attended by the Hon Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Aged Care, Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas and representatives from Moderna and Monash University.

The facility is expected to be operational in 2024, subject to regulatory approvals. Once operational, it will produce up to 100 million vaccine doses every year. This will include COVID-19 booster shots as well as mRNA vaccines for other respiratory viruses such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Construction will support 500 jobs, with another 500 medical manufacturing and research roles to be created once the facility is operational.

Establishing a local mRNA vaccine manufacturing capability will help protect Australians against future pandemics and will reduce our dependence on imported mRNA vaccines.

The facility contributes to a world-class mRNA ecosystem being established across Australia. The facility will attract highly skilled people and expand local capability including through partnerships with leading Australian research organisations.

Australians may dislike Singapore's censorship, but Singapore Law Minister K. Shanmugam's cross examination of Facebook's Simon Milner is precisely what is needed in Australia given Facebook's censorship of arguments against The Voice referendum

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has accused social media platforms of attempting to censor the case against an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

Facebook removed ads that were paid for by conservative lobby group Advance Australia.

They encouraged people to vote against the proposed ‘Voice’ which is set to become the subject of a referendum this year.

Abbott has told Sky news that he believes the Albanese government is relying on big tech to censor the ‘No’ case.

Facebook is clearly interfering in local Australian  politics and its activities require immediate investigation.

Australians may dislike Singapore's censorship, but Singapore Law Minister K. Shanmugam's cross examination of Facebook's  Simon Milner is precisely what is needed in Australia given Facebook's censorship of arguments against The Voice referendum.
