The  newly elected MP for Tangney, Sam Lim, continues to gain in stature, seen above seated next to Ambassador Xiao Qian of China , at the Australa-China Friendship Association 2022 National Conference . Other attendees included WA Premier Mark Mc Gowan.

Prior to his election SBS Chinese aired a story about Lim that included the claim that "as a Chinese man born and raised in Malaysia, Lim was given the opportunity to learn nine languages, including Malay, Mandarin, Indonesian and Burmese." That claim has intrigued Australians born and schooled in Malaysia, like this writer, who cannot recall any school in  Malaysia that provided that range of languages in the curriculum.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young who warned of the risk to 18 year olds from the AstraZeneca vaccine awarded Australia's highest honour

COMMENT

As reported by The Guardian:

Queensland’s CHO doesn't want 18 year olds to get AstraZeneca. But not everyone agrees.
The majority of Queensland’s new COVID-19 cases are aged under 10 but the state’s Chief Health Officer says she doesn’t want those as young as 18 to get the AstraZeneca vaccine.

As lockdown was extended in southeast Queensland, Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young was asked by a reporter if it was a mistake in hindsight to be so unequivocal about not wanting under 40s to get an AstraZeneca jab.

“I said I didn’t want 18-year-olds to have AstraZeneca and I still don’t,” Dr Young said during Monday's press conference.

Dr Young’s comments came as Queensland recorded 13 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases on Monday. Ten of those new cases are children aged under 10 years old.

When questioned about what age people should be to get an AstraZeneca jab, Dr Young said “60”. She then called on older people to make use of the vaccine.

“I think it’s important that people have that discussion with their GPs,” she said.

“That is the advice from ATAGI. If you are under 60, and you feel particularly concerned, go and talk to your GP about whether or not you should be having a dose of AstraZeneca.”

Current ATAGI guidelines state AstraZeneca “can be used in adults aged under 60 years where the benefits are likely to outweigh the risk and the consumer has made an informed decision based on an understanding of the risks and benefits.”

In response to Dr Young’s comments, NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said she supported the advice of the nation’s peak vaccine body, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).

“My view is that we follow the
ATAGI advice and ATAGI has looked at risk-benefits,” Dr Chant told reporters on Monday.

“Everyone has got their personal considerations. They live in different parts of the city. Their risk is different and so for me, it is around informed consent.”

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian pointed out earlier in the press conference that people under 40 are most likely to contract and spread the virus.

“The health advice for Greater Sydney has changed in relation to AstraZeneca,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“All adults can come forward and get the AstraZeneca vaccine. If anyone has concerns they can go to their GP.”

Earlier on Monday, the President of AstraZeneca Australia, Liz Chatwin, expressed frustration over some people’s hesitancy towards the jab.

“We have been surprised about the amount of debate about the vaccine and disappointed,” Ms Chatwin told ABC’s AM radio.

“COVID is deadly. The benefit of vaccinations are clear. We know that from real-world data from millions of people.”

AstraZeneca vaccine Source: AAPDeputy Chief Medical Officer Michael Kidd said in a press conference on Monday that ATAGI’s advice for AstraZeneca was that in a large outbreak the benefits are greater than the risk of the very rare side effects for all age groups.

“What we have is the 11 local government areas in southeast Queensland are a Commonwealth hotspot, and therefore, this means the definition of a significant outbreak,” Dr Kidd said.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt emphasised that those swept up in Queensland’s outbreak should consider getting an AstraZeneca vaccine.

“Our message is that the ATAGI advice has been reframed... If you are under 60, it is something, in a hotspot, in an outbreak area, that people should strongly consider.”

A spokesperson from the Federal Department of Health told The Feed that in “both outbreak and non-outbreak situations, vaccination continues to be a key public health intervention to prevent infection, transmission and severe disease.”

The spokesperson said more than half of Australia's adult population is currently eligible for COVID-19 vaccination, including, “anyone aged 40 years and over [and] anyone aged 16 to 39 years who is in a priority group.”

“In addition, people aged 18-39 years who are not otherwise eligible through a priority group can choose to receive AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination, where they give informed consent,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“To date, more than 12.3 million vaccines have been administered across Australia and we continue to encourage all Australians to come forward and get vaccinated.”

President of the Australian Medical Association Queensland Professor Chris Perry said the peak body is following ATAGI’s current advice.

“The current ATAGI advice in Queensland recommends AstraZeneca for people over 60,” Professor Parry said.

Professor Parry said it’s important to acknowledge that this advice may change based on the “shifting risk profile for people and their potential exposure to COVID-19.”

“The ATAGI advice changed in Sydney and we acknowledge this could also happen in Queensland too if the outbreak were to worsen here,” Professor Parry told The Feed.

“We encourage people under 60 who want to be vaccinated, to talk with their GP about their personal health needs and risk profile, so they can make an informed decision to have the vaccine.”

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young speaks to the media during a press conference in Brisbane, Sunday, August 1, 2021. Source: AAP

Back in June, Queensland’s CHO Dr Young made similar comments to those made in Monday’s press conference, claiming she didn’t want under-40s to get the AstraZeneca vaccine.

“I do not want under 40s to get AstraZeneca because they are at increased risk of getting the rare… blood clotting syndrome,” Dr Young said.

“I don’t want an 18-year-old in Queensland dying from a clotting illness, who if they got COVID, probably wouldn’t die.”

At the time, Australia's Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly argued that the decision for Australians to get AstraZeneca was between a patient and their doctor.

"There's a preference for Pfizer up to the age of 60. But that preference is a preference,” Dr Kelly said.

“It's a discussion for doctors to have with their own patients and the work through their own risk and benefit in relation to that.”

Tugu Negara , a memorial to Malaysian and Australian soldiers who were killed during the Emergency was destroyed by Communist Party China backed terrorists and rebuilt by an Australian -History forgotten in PM Albo's South East Asian reset, in Sabah born FM Penny Wong's SEA outreach, and her familial links to the CPC's United Works Front

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

Tugu Negara,  the national monument in Malaysia dedicated to Malaysian and Commonwealth , often Australian soldiers who fought Communist Party China (CPC) backed Communist terrorists during the 1948-60 Emergency, was destroyed by Communist terrorists in 1975.

Christopher Carney, an Australian who was then a lecturer at Malaysia's MARA Institute Of Technology,  led the project to rebuild the  monument.

The monument and that incident encapsulates the context of the deep historical and in particular defence ties between Malaysia and Australia that has gone on regardless of politics. New Prime Minister Albanese In his haste to "reset"  ties between Australia and Malaysia, and the rest of ASEAN, seems to have forgotten, if not is ignorant of that history.

If he can recall or  is aware of that history he ought to understand why circumspection is required when he keeps parroting "reset",  and why his Foreign Minister Penny Wong's Sabah antecedents are a problem.

Is Foreign Minister Penny Wong's brother James Wong an intermediary between Australia and China, did the connection prevent Penny Wong from criticising China's recent act of war against a RAAF aircraft

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

Bonding time: Penny and James during a family barbecue gathering.

Malaysian English daily  The Star has  revealed details of  Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong's Malaysian siblings that  have not been made known to Australians.  Minister Wong has previously only ever spoken of a younger brother

Among her seven siblings is James Wong (pictured above) who is a member ofthe Malaysia China Chamber Of Commerce.  The MCCC is likely to be part of the Communist Party China's United Works Front Department

That is a link that raises a number of questions. Is James Wong an intermediary between Australia and China ? Is that link the reason why Minister Wong has said nothing about the recent aggression by a Chinese fighter jet towards a RAAF plane? Had it been an Australian jet that in any way harassed a Chinese plane China would have considered it an act of war.

Then, was this link the reason why Minister Wong attacked former Defence Minister Peter Dutton when he stated the obvious, that Australia would stand with the United States in the event of conflict between China and the US?

Is China trying to turn Sabah against Malaysia, is it time for another Operation Judas?

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

The Australian researcher and writer Geoff Wade has observed:

A telling example of China's subnational diplomacy. Wang Yi stops in Sabah, Malaysia on return journey to China and meets with Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan. Only rings Malaysian FM in KL

This would not be the first occasion in which the Malaysian Government has been faced with an attempt by the Communist Party of China to turn an East Malaysian state against the Federal Government. An attempt to do so in the 70s was successfully countered by the execution of Operation Judas.

To Be Read With An Account Of Operation Judas By Tan Sri Leong Chee Woh, One Of Malaysia's Leading Practitioners Of Counter -Insurgency, Who Led Operation Judas:

Finance was the NKCP's main asset in sustaining the insurgency. For a long time, it was suspected that the CTs were well supplied with money but not from the rural folks as they would have to travel far and wide to collect their finance and, in the process, risk running into the SF. We surmised, therefore, that there must be other sources from which they obtained money, and that these sources were the wealthy and the businessmen from the towns. News also filtered through from the rural people that there was a disparity of treatment of the rich and the poor. The former category were spared no matter what they did, even if it was to the extent of supporting the enemy, but the poor were arrested and detained even if they contributed a mere dollar. When more camps were attacked and more documents were recovered and there were more surrenders, a clearer picture was obtained regarding the CTs sources of finance. It was most startling that doctors, timber tycoons, bankers, and wealthy businessmen were all contributing to the SCO's coffers, and that they had been doing so for a long time. When sufficient evidence was available, a mass arrest of the big time financial supporters was planned to allay suspicions of the rural folk that the Government or the authorities were biased against the rural folk.
