MOF Inc's IPIC default : The Government Of Malaysia has failed to meet a payment due,and it could not even get cash out of Petronas

by Ganesh Sahathevan

IPIC's announcement to the London Stock Exchange is clear. MOF Inc, in other words, the Government of Malaysia, failed to make a payment of USD 602 Million, which fell due for payment on 31 July 2017.
The Government of Malaysia has attempted to place blame for default entirely on its wholly-owned company , 1MDB, but that  is a lie. MOF Inc and 1MDB are both jointly liable for the amounts owed IPIC.

However , that is not the worst of it. The most worrying part of all this is the fact that Petronas's cash resources ( about USD 30 Billion at last count)  could not be relied on to escape this bullet, which is likely to   result in higher interest costs for all borrowers in the country.
